About City Basketball
Youth and schools charity XLP and Broadgate Estates Ltd would like to announce the second annual City Basketball Fundraising Tournament to be held at the Broadgate Arena on August 2-4th 2010. Team registration will begin on Monday 19/4/10 at CityBasketBall.co.uk or email wizdom@xlp.org.uk for a registration form.
Last year’s winners, “No Equal”, will be returning to play some exhibition matches alongside live musical performances from some of the many young people XLP work alongside, as well as a number of special guest artists.
We will be continuing the same format from last years event where 16, 3 on 3 basketball teams compete over 3 days, with competition sessions taking place between 12 - 2pm and 4 – 8pm, with free play practice sessions throughout the day in between competition playing times, alongside live performances and XLP’s multimedia buses XL-R8 and the X-Mobile. Spaces are limited. So, register your team early to ensure a place. The minimum sponsorship target for each team is £1200 to be collected before the tournament.
Money raised from the event will go towards the youth charity XLP which stands for "The eXceL Project"; a registered charity (No. 1101095) who have been at the cutting edge of urban youth work in the U.K for over 15 years to transform attitudes and behaviours of young people, raising their sense of self-worth and empowering them to make wise lifestyle choices.
On a monthly basis, XLP operates in over 50 schools, runs the COACH 1-2-1 Mentoring project, hosts over 65 after-school clubs in local communities and on its double-decker XL-R8 bus facility and organises an Arts Showcase programme where young people from across London get to showcase their talents. XLP has a wealth of experience of organising grassroots youth projects all year round and is continually striving to introduce trail-blazing youth initiatives.
At last year's event we managed
to raise over £20,000 to support XLP’s work with young people in many of the
most deprived housing estates in
Money raised from this year’s event will go towards commissioning a new multimedia bus, the Fighting Chance schools tour, as well as XLP after schools and lunch time reading clubs.
